Creamy Lentil Dahl

About the Recipe

A firm favourite at Bliss Yoga Retreats, this creamy sweet tomato and coconut Dahl is packed full of delicious rich flavours and is relatively low in heat making it a popular dish for everyone.


- 3 jars of cooked red lentils

- 1 jar of tomato sauce

- 1 jar of sweet red peppers

- 2 tins of coconut milk

- 2 large onions

- 1/2 bulb of garlic

- 2 squares of dark chocolate

- 1 vegetable stock cube

- 1 tsp cumin

- 1 tsp ginger

- 1 tsp ground black pepper

- 1 tsp curry powder

- 1 tsp paprika

- 1 tsp turmeric

- 1 tsp corriander

- 1 tsp of cayenne pepper


Step 1

This recipe will feed around 8 people, for a smaller quantity simply halve the ingredients.

Dice your onions and crush your garlic and lightly fry in a pan with vegetable oil Drain your lentils and add to the frying pan. Next add your tomato sauce and three quarters of the coconut milk. Put your sweet red peppers in the blender and add this to the mix. 

Step 2

Add your 2 squares of chocolate to the mix, which may be an unconventional dahl ingredient but gives the dish a lovely rich sweetness. Add the stock cube, herbs and spices and gently simmer for 5 minutes. Serve with a swirl of warm coconut milk and a sprinkle of chopped coriander for presentation.
